Weaving Immersion Class
Sep 20 @ 9:00 am – Sep 21 @ 5:00 pm

SAVE THE DATE!

Deborah Jarchow WeavingIf you’ve been wanting to learn to weave, or have a loom and want to get more out of it, this two day class is for you! You’ll have an opportunity to rent a loom if you don’t have one. The rental cost can be applied to the cost of the loom!

Join us on Friday September 20 and Saturday Sept 21 as we welcome Deborah Jarchow for a wonderful weekend of exploring the possibilities of Rigid Heddle Weaving! We’ll be in a wonderful spot in Cambria’s West Village, a short drive or a lovely 20 minute walk from the shop.

This class is perfect if you’ve never woven before. It’s also perfect if you already have a loom but are looking to improve your skills. If you don’t have a loom, we’ll rent you one for the weekend. If you fall in love with weaving (and we think you will) we’ll apply your rental to the purchase of the loom!

Rigid Heddle Immersion

Class Level: Beginner to Advanced Beginner

Class Description: In this course you will be able to jump right into rigid-heddle weaving if you haven’t tried it, or bump up your current skills if you’re already a weaver.
During the 2 days, you’ll learn how to easily warp the loom using the direct-warping method. Then explore warp- and weft-faced weave structures and color-and-weave patterns, and learn to use pick-up sticks to create patterns that are woven into your cloth. Learn tips to keep your selvedges straight and practice different ways to finish the ends.

If you haven’t tried rigid-heddle weaving, this class will start you on the right path so you can go home with weaving confidence. If you are already a rigid- heddle weaver, don’t miss this chance to refine and review techniques, round out your rigid-heddle skills, and develop your confidence.

We’ll be supplying you with the yarn you need to participate in the class. If you’re renting a loom, you’ll also have all the supplies you need. If you’re bringing your loom, be sure to bring everything listed but you’ll still get yarn!

Homework: None

Supplies to bring: Rigid heddle loom with at least 8” wide weaving width and 7.5 or 8 dent reed, Warping peg, threading and sley hooks, clamps, 2 brown paper grocery bags, 1 tube from inside a paper towel roll, 2 shuttles, 2 pick up sticks, tapestry needle, sewing needle, scissors, tape measure, 30 yards of waste yarn (worsted weight acrylic works nicely)

Contact us if you want to make sure your loom is correct for this class!

We’ll supply the yarn you’ll use in the class, but if you want to bring your own:

Yarn – 400 yards each of 2 solid contrasting colors, or 200 yards each of 4 solid different colors of yarn.  All yarn should be worsted weight, strong, smooth, not hairy and at least 2 ply (no singles).

If you don’t have a loom, you can rent one from us! If you fall in love with weaving by the end of the weekend, we’ll apply the cost of the rental to your purchase.

Loom Rental: If you don’t have a loom and want to try this out, we will rent a loom to you starting on Friday the 20th. You’ll be able to keep it through the weekend. At that time you can either return it OR you can apply the rental cost to the purchase of the loom! If you want to rent a loom, click here for the link after you’ve registered. The rental cost is only $50. Loom rentals are only for class participants at this time.

The class will start at 9AM on Friday, September 20 and conclude Saturday September 21 at 5PM.

Please note, the room where we will be holding the weekend workshop is up a short flight of stairs, no ramp.

I’m an Icon – With Barry Klein @ Ball & Skein & More
Oct 26 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Icon PulloverI’m an Icon!

Indeed you will be an Icon when you finish your Trendsetter Icon pullover and wear it into the world. This easy to knit and fun to wear pullover is worked in two opposing colors of Icon, a blend of Alpaca, Silk, Cotton and Polyamide for the subtle sequins. This top is worked in Stock St. and alternating colors from side to side so that the eyes don’t catch the stripes but watch how they move up the body. The pattern also includes sleeves if you wish.

If you prefer accessories, Barry is working on a triangular shawl version of this design now and you can do that if you wish. Both patterns are options for this class.

Icon 3(4,5,6)skns 1st color
Icon 4(5,6,7)skns 2nd color
37(41,45,49)”. Finished at bust.

For the Triangle Wrap it is 4 skeins each of 2 colors.

  • The class comes with 7 skeins of Icon, an $84 value! This is enough for the 37” bust pullover. If you want a larger size, or to make the shawl, we’ll collect the extra fee for the extra yarn. You also get the pattern.
  • You also get 3 hours of Barry’s time, the biggest value!
  • Attendees of the class will receive a 20% discount on all non-sale Trendsetter yarns as well non-sale accessories, such as needles.

You’ll need to bring 24″ US 7s or 8s, or needles to get gauge.

This class will run on Saturday October 26 from 9AM to Noon

ABC Cape with Barry Klein @ Ball & Skein & More
Oct 27 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

ABC WrapABC Cape:

One of Barry’s favorite things to do is to create a new yarn by working different yarns together.

In this class, we’ll be working with a new yarn from Trendsetter called Paradigm, a luscious spun Merino with a slight glitter. The colors are slowly dyed so that each skein shades from one color to the next. Along with Paradigm, we’ll be working with Silkhair Print. The Silkhair Print is a blend of Super Kid Mohair and soft Silk. Each color in Silkhair Print is uniquely dyed. Adding the final texture to the group is Infinity, a ribbon style yarn that is dyed on one shade but each shade changes as the yarn evolves from cotton to rayon to silk.

Each of these yarns are worked one row at a time in this wonderful easy pattern that start with 13sts and grows from there. Simple, easy, and fun to knit as you watch the colors and textures change with every row. If capes are not your what you’re looking for, Barry is finishing up a Wrap style in the same design that will have armholes and can be worn as a butterfly. They will take the same amount of yarn.

In this class you’ll receive:

  • Paradigm 1/skein
  • Silkhair Print-1/skein
  • Infinity-5/skeins
  • The pattern
  • 3 hours of Barry’s time (The biggest value!)
  • A 20% discount on all non-sale trendsetter yarns and non-sale accessories, such as needles.

This class will run on Sunday October 27 from 9AM to Noon

You’ll need to bring US 7s or 8s. While you can start with a 16” or 24” circular, you’ll need to be at a 40” cable when you’re at the end. (A perfect reason to use an addi Click set!)

This is ME – Shrug or Cardigan – with Barry Klein @ Ball & Skein & More
Oct 27 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

This is ME This is ME ! Trendsetter Yarns designer Barry Klein called this yarn ME because from the very first moment of knitting with it, about 2 years ago, he said “OMG…..I love this yarn. It is so me.”

Today ME comes to us at Ball & Skein and so does Barry to teach a class for the new Ribbed Shoulder Cover. This wonderful cover is worked in K2/P2 Rib and is worked around the shoulders. When done, the stitches are picked up along the side and worked in the same Rib St. pattern changing needles to bring the stitches in and to create the beautiful collar. This is a quick, easy knit and perfect for our local weather. There are also some quick hat patterns to go along with this incredible shoulder cover.

If you prefer a jacket, Barry will also have instructions for his classic 3 button cardigan. This simple cardigan is knit on big needles and is what Barry considers “A weekend project.” Take your pick or come and do both as we fall in love with ME.

  • The class comes with 4 skeins of ME in your choice of color as well as the pattern.
  • You’ll also get 3 hours of Barry’s time, the best value of all!
  • Attendees of the class will receive a 20% discount on any non-sale Trendsetter purchases made that day! We’ll also extend that discount to non-sale accessories, such as needles, including addi Click sets.

Shoulder Shrug: 4 skeins of ME ( An $80 value – Included in the class)

ME CardiganCardigan: 6(7,9,10,12) skeins of ME (Optional addition. I fyou’d like to make this instead, we’ll collect the cost difference for the yarn)
to fit bust: 37(41, 45, 49, 53) This is finished size at the bust and is meant to be worn with positive ease. This pattern is based on 3″ of positive ease included.

To make the shrug you’ll need US 11, 13, and 15 needles. While you can use straights for part of it, it will be easiest to use a 24″ circular of each. (Time for an addi Click set?) The cardigan uses 13s and 15s, again, 24″ circular will suit you well.

This class runs Sunday, October 27 from 2PM to 5PM.
