So you want to buy a Yarn Store
Yes, the Ball & Skein, one of the oldest shops in the country, is for sale. Kris and Oz (That's us) are ready to retire from the day to day operation of a yarn shop and move on to our next life chapter. This has been a wonderful experience and we have memories and friends we will cherish for the rest of our lives.
We expect this process will take some time, so we'll still be here to serve you as we move forward!
We appreciate your interest in this opportunity. Running your own business, and running a yarn shop in particular, is a dream of many folks.
Running a retail yarn shop can be very rewarding. It certainly has been for us. As many of us in the business have said, no one goes into the yarn business to get rich, but we can assure you there so many chances for experiences that are unique and fulfilling.
The shop has been in business since 1978 under (so far) three different owners. We have had it since 2009 when we purchased it from the estate of the previous owner. In that time we've grown the shop to where it is today. We have a large customer base, a large and active email list, and a reasonable social media presence. We also have great relations with our vendors and, we like to think, with the folks that have supported the shop all these years.
The shop has a good mix of in-store and on-line sales. Its product mix covers a wide range of items for knitters and crocheters from a broad spectrum of abilities and interests. Our partnerships with companies such as Berroco, Bryson, KFI, Manos del Uruguay, Mountain Colors, Prism, Skacel, Trendsetter, and many others have been a big part of our story and successes.
The inventory is current with a solid tech infrastructure to support the business needs. It's a business that generates revenue the day you first unlock the door.
It's a great adventure to run a business like this, and we're hoping to find the next person to jump in and continue this legacy!
